FREE DNAcademy Membership, Post Your New Year’s Domain Name Investing Resolution

What's Your New Year's Domain Name Investing Resolution?

I’m giving away a $500 lifetime membership to DNAcademy. All you have to do is post a comment below about what you’re going to do to better yourself in 2018 and you might win it.Leave a comment!

Congratulations to Cliff Sokolic for winning the lifetime membership to DNAcademy!

I’m giving away a $500 lifetime membership to DNAcademy. It’s the same training course that hundreds of investors have used to level-up their knowledge, fill-in their investing gaps, and make more money.

Even the teams at Uniregistry and Payoneer Escrow use DNAcademy to train their staff, so why aren’t you going through the course?!

But here’s the question that you need to answer for this prize, and that is, what is one big domain name investing goal that you have for 2018?

I’m going to tell you mine.

One of my big goals for 2018 is continuing to simplify and upgrade my domain name portfolio.

Every quarter I look at my domain names, determine which are getting visitors and inquiries, and decide — based on those metrics, as well as how long I’ve owned them — if I’m going to continue to hold them another year or if it’s time to liquidate them on the wholesale market and use those funds to upgrade my portfolio.

It’s a process that I’m going to be adding to DNAcademy with a full video tutorial in the coming month, and by doing the process I ensure that I spend the least amount of money possible to achieve the highest potential gain and return on my investment.

Now, what’s one big goal that you have for your investing business in 2018?

If you haven’t even started yet, maybe it’s just getting started.

If you’ve started already, well, what’s that next level you want to achieve?

What’s that big, bold strategy or tactic you’ve been thinking about doing that’s going to make it happen for you in your business next year?

Leave that information as a comment on this blog post. That’ll put you into the drawing for that lifetime-level DNAcademy membership worth $500.

And in the process, you’ll be giving some ideas and motivation to other people to help them on their improvement journey.

And, no, I haven’t forgotten about you DNAcademy students. If you’re a yearly student and you win, you can apply the credit to your account and go lifetime.

If you’re a lifetime member already, give the membership to your wife, your friend, your brother, your sister, your mom, your dad, a friend you meet at a conference, local meetup, or on a discussion forum. Be a hero for someone else. This prize is fully transferable!

I’ll be selecting the winner in early 2018, so hurry up and make your comment.

If you’re listening on the podcast or watching on YouTube, visit DNAcademy.com/2018goal to post a comment with your goal.

Thank you so much for watching and listening to DNAcademy this year. I appreciate you attention and drive.

Oh, and if you’re planning on being at NamesCon in January 2018, please look for me there.

DNAcademy members get a 50% discount on their NamesCon tickets, so if you haven’t purchased one already go to the Student Discounts section inside DNAcademy for the details.

DNAcademy Membership Lapel PinAs I mentioned, I’ll be at NamesCon and I’m going to giving away this exclusive DNAcademy membership lapel pin to every lifetime member I meet in person. It will be our own way of finding like-minded investors who want to achieve great things with their investing in 2018, and it’s a great conversation starter and networking opportunity.

Happy holidays, happy new year, and here’s to your success in 2018.

  1. First off hats off to you Michael Cyger, for continuing the legacy. And for adding so much value to the space.

My Goal for my 2018 Domain Investing Strategy is to get 80% Liquid. Then take the Digital Realty Profits and buy Real Estate in the Next Recession.

How about you Michael Cyger?? What are your goals???

  2. In 2018, I would focus more on buying quality domains, creating a strategy to reach the right domains, negotiate and acquiring them. I would also focus on getting even better at domain sale negotiations.

  3. DNacademy 2018 Goal.
My goal is to buy valuable domains which have some meaning as well as value and which also adds some value to my domain portfolio. I want my customers to buy a good domain name from me at right price.
    This is my goal.
Right now I am having 42 domains in my portfolio from them some of them have even Estibot value which is an add on. Also I believe in this market of domains Patience is must…..That’s what I have learnt from you Sir. Thank you for teaching us all what domain is all about. Thanks alot.

I love quality over quantity. It’s not the number of domains in your portfolio that makes the investor.

  4. Hi Mike. As a student Web developer at the ripe old age of 36 I plan on developing more of my domains. 2017 has not been a good year for sales so my plan is to develop my favorite names to hopefully make more sales.

  6. I don’t have a totally solid plan, but here is the outline. I have a website that I built on the subject of expired domains and on a deleted domain. It is now 6 months old and is starting to pick up organic traffic. I want to monetize it with expired domain sales offers.
Also, having learned from all that experience, I am planning to pick other niche expired domains with reasonable metrics, set up WordPress on them, let them sit and cook, add some posts every once in a while and see what they turn into.
Then I will sell them later on.
I picked up a domain on the subject of day trading and another one on the subject of sales funnels.
It’s a nice game, like growing a plant.

  7. MY Domain Investing Resolution:

To sell off $100 Million worth of domain names in 2018! Like a boss…

… which is, of course, but a dream (for now).

However, since this is about resolutions (and not dreams) let us return to the topic at hand:

My resolution is to get started with investing in and selling branded domains.

I have lightly tried other types of domains.

    Yet to no avail.

However, for some reason, even with my lack of domaining education, it is possible that I have a talent for finding worthy branded domains (judging from the amount of people who approach me for my finds).

Everything has happened at an instinctual level for now…

But I would really like to learn, study, and understand the fundamental theories behind Branded Domain Investing.

So that I may learn to play the game the right way…

And further build upon what I have achieved so far.

Merry Christmas and Happy New Year to all…

  8. 2018 I have big plans for domain investing! I am currently attempting to double a penny 28 times to reach a million dollars. From a single penny in 2014 the money is now at $17,000 (step 21 of 28). As I progressed through various stages, I adapted and utilized the best tools available to keep progressing in the experiment. Currently, domaining is one of my primary strategies to grow the money. In 2017 I saw my largest domain sale to date… a .biz LLLL that sold BIN for $2,000. I have used flippa, private sales and direct cold calling to make domain deal happen. In 2018 I hope to continue learning and finding the best tools and tactics to reach step 22 and beyond. Best new year’s wishes to all the domainers out there!

  9. My New Year’s Resolution as far as domain investing, is to sell two domain names that I’ve been trying to ‘move’ for a few years. Basically, I buy hand-register domain names. I’ve never paid over $13 bucks for a domain name. I may renew certain domain names once or twice but for the most part, I admit: I buy them and then end up letting them expire after one year. I guess that’s why I haven’t been successful with domain name investing! But, anyway, there are two domain names that I’ve held on for several years because my gut instinct just tells me they would be valuable assets to the right buyer(s). I refuse to let them expire. My goal in 2018: Sell both of these domain names.

  10. My new years domain investment resolution is to try to develop names be it through digital marketing, blogs or fully serviced website before I try to auction them and to delete ones that dont make sense when I first tell them to someone else. Already I have about four or five names which I must have been way too impulsive/crazy to buy in the first place and they just sit there and reduce my potential profit year on year.

  15. Good to see you in action Michael! 🙂

My resolution for 2018 is to be more organised and start to do outbound on domains where it makes sense to do outbound. Also want to get a blog going and start growing my own “brand”.

      Hi Arif,

Building a “brand” will definitely help in moving domains in the wholesale market if you’re targeting other investors. If you want to build a brand for end users (like in marketing, branding, etc.), then your brand will definitely help you sell more at the retail level.

      Great goals for 2018!

      Best,

  16. Hi

I have around 300 domains and most of them average resale valued .

I started domaning in Jan 2017 and after losing nearly $5000 . I understood one thing if you have right keywords you can find and sell the domain to end user .

I confess that I can not afford the big price and premium Domain. So I will continue to buy the domains, not in 100’s but one domain that should give me high returns .

Last week I started marketing my domains by outbound emails to end user. Fortunately I got a reply from one of the end user . He was not interested to buy at this point or stage . But I am more than happy that I got reply from the end user and a VP of a company in US.

Now I am more confident that I can also sell my domain to end user .

    Things I do in 2018 are .
    1. Try to sell maximum of my below avaerage domain
    2. Buy one premium domain from the money that I saved
    3. Read and watch as much as the blogs and interviews of domain experts.
4.Study the market before outbounding e-mails
5.will set a goal of selling at least one domain per month to end user .
    6.learn how to negotiate
7.will not demand high price until I have the premium domain .
    8. Closly watch Andrew , Ali and Micheal interview again . ( if I do this I am sure I will be successful)
    9. Will keep an eye of domains that are sold by other domainers and learn the market about the usage of that domain .
    10. Will work on google keywords
    11. Learn how seo are useful with the exact match domain .
    13. Try to buy exact match domains only .
    14. Learn obout the creative name that can be a brand in future .
15.will see the activities of best domain brokers
16.will try to save money to get membership in DNACADEMY
17.will open a blog and share my study of domains.
18.lastly will become a good domainer

    Thanks

  19. 2017 was the year I ventured in to the domain industry. I was shared a link to domainsherpa.com and after studying it for a few weeks I decided to start building out my domain portfolio. Not only as a form of investing, but to potentially own valuable digital assets long term and of course attempt to make a profit and some side revenue. My portfolio grew to about 35 domains which I am pretty confident in and kept my total investment very low as only purchased through expiring auctions/closeouts. My goal for 2017 was to get at least 1 domain sale. Unfortunately that was not the case. However I did have many victories in my opinion as those included receiving about 5 different offers through my efty landing pages. Direct offers through my email as well as responses from some minor outbound I did to potential end users! I negotiated two of my domains which unfortunately went cold and could not close. Needless to say I learned a lot and feel I am on the right path to my first sale. My goal for 2018 is to start doing more outreach for the current domains I own. I think that is crucial and an important skill to have as a domain investor. Otherwise your domains could be sitting for a long time or until that one person comes along. So developing my outbound skills as in finding the right end user, sending the correct email, identifying the decision maker, etc. I would love to gain some skill and have always considered being a member of DNAcademy so maybe this might be my opportunity! Feel free to look over my portfolio at oceansideassets.com! Cheers!

You’re on the right path, Ronaldo!

      Traffic → Inquiries → Negotiations → Sales

      and

Outbound offers → Discussions → Negotiations → Sales

We’ve seen it work both ways for years on DomainSherpa shows. Keep the faith and put in the work. You’ll do great in 2018!

  20. I’d like to be more analytical in my investing. I’ve bought too much crap in the past. Going forward, I want to buy based on real reasons like a process. I’m hoping that I can learn that at DNacademy!

Going “full time” is a difficult path, Hinkson. Many of the most successful investors keep a day job (like Andrew Rosener of MediaOptions.com or Shane Cultra of CountryArbors.com) or run a blog in addition to their investing as an additional / related revenue stream (like Elliot Silver of DomainInvesting.com or Andrew Allemann of DomainNameWire.com). So keep an open mind to your path.

Keep the faith. Best wishes in 2018!

  23. New Year’s domain resolution. Further monetize domains. I have over 1500 domains , many of which are keyword domains that I can monetize with products and/or affiliate links which provide a lot more income than parking. Also a monetized domain is more valuable and easier to lease (my preferred route) or sell at a higher price vs a parked domain.

    1. Post
      Author

Great goal, Cliff. Programmatic monetization (like parking) starts with a domain name that receives traffic, either through residual links from prior websites or type-in traffic. Development is a much bigger endeavor, especially with 1,500 domain names. You’ll never know unless you measure and try, so good luck in your 2018 journey! I’m looking forward to hearing how you’re doing on it.

  24. In very simple words…in 2018..I will have more and more domains with quality in my mind… And increase my portfolio… Believe me guys 2018 would be another great year for domaining..Long live domaining long live domainers…I will learn each day from other domainers…And hats off to DNacademy and Michael…Doing great work…

Hope all is well with you.
I have been watching your show since 2012 and even won a years’ subscription to coffee.club for having one of the most comments in a year. At that time, it was also around this time of the year and I asked you to donate to someone who will appreciate and can use it.
Having said that, my domain name sales have been horrible (with the exception of the one that I emailed you about) and thus I can really use this program.
If I do win this contest, I will donate a portion of my sales to the Fred Hutchinson Cancer Research Center until it reaches at least the $1,000 mark.

  26. My domaining goals for 2018 are:

    – Transition from “dabbling and selling a domain here or there over the last few years” into taking more focused action to see what I can learn and achieve with some more focused effort on domains
    – Level-up my domain buying strategies by developing more defined criteria and insights for pulling the trigger when I find the right opportunities
    – Freshening-up my current small portfolio of domains and making sure they are all nicely presented and ready for sale instead of neglected or halfway ready for their next buyer/home
    – Enjoying the process and having fun exploring, learning, thinking-about and taking new action to become a bit better as a part-time domainer in 2018 🙂

    Thanks!

I’m up about 500 percent in six months, just dumb luck. Now I have an account on coinbase . No investment advice is being given here but would take a portion of your domain profits and put into cryptos. We are still in the early stages like domains were in the day. Have a GREAT 2018 .

  29. Well Michael,
My 2018 goals are to liquify my portfolio and learn “domaining” the right way. I started buying domain names in 2007 and have been doing a buy and hold approach, with nothing to really show for them but virtual dust and more expensive renewal fees every year. My intentions when purchasing them in 2007 were to develop and sell them, for which real life set in and I never got around to doing that, so my goal in 2018 is to become a “domain investor” the right way, by learning from DN Academy, Domain Sherpa, Domaining.com and others and be able to say that I’m a domain name investor vs speculator.

    1. Post
      Author

Sometimes starting over and not being burdened by mistakes of the past is the right way to go, especially when you have the liability of those decisions haunting you through renewal fees. It’s hard to do, but can 100% be the right decision. NameJet can be a great way to go to liquidate in some cases. Good luck and best wishes in 2018!

  30. I am going to focus on my health! With good health comes the ability to achieve even more than one could in bad health. Good health will permit me to focus better on my new EFTY.com trial account!

Happy holidays and a healthy, prosperous, New Year 2018 to everyone!

  32. Domaining is without question now the hardest business in human history. If it was the nineties again, I would probably be doing better. I went into the game a few years ago or so with a big ego thinking everything I hand registered and bought was gold. Nope! It doesn’t matter what you think in this business. It only matters if somebody/company wants your domain…and good luck with that btw…
Had a few offers for a couple of my Ai domains and a few others but no freaking sales. Somebody please kill me.
My goal is too keep at it – reading and testing everything domains (.com), dump my garbage, and improve my sales website. If I was smart, I would probably steal for a living…

Domain name investing can seem like the hardest business, but sometimes you just need to change your mindset. The small shift from buying domains you like to buying domains that others will like is critical. Have you seen this vlog I posted in the past? https://www.dnacademy.com/the-super-simple-secret-to-investing-in-domain-names

I don’t know your portfolio or your investing strategy, but I’d suggest that you consider upgrading the domains you’re investing in for 2018. And like you said, dump your garbage.

You can do it, Bob. I have no doubt that you can because you realize that what you’ve done in the past hasn’t been working — that’s the critical first step.

Best wishes to you and yours in 2018!

  33. I am going to be a better and wise investor in 2018 and beyond. I will try not to repeat the mistakes and follies I did all this while (which I have jotted down in my blog for newbies to take notes) while acquiring the domains and selling them. I will try to be on par with upcoming technologies so that I can acquire respective domains beforehand. And most importantly learn the exquisite selling techniques to the end users.

  34. Thanks Michael Cyger, you have been contributing a lot in the domaining space. I love your interiew session in domainsherpa 🙂 and have learned quite a number of new things !

My 2018 resolution is to be active selling my domains in my portfolio. I currently own more than 500 domains but not really active selling, but just wait for endusers to come approaching me. Some just go expire and go to waste.

In 2018, I need to be an action taker. Even a long journey starts from a single step.

Outreach can definitely drive sales on domains that are an upgrade for businesses. Thanks for posting your resolution, Nazree!

  35. I think that I’m just going to continue bettering myself as a person by being more understanding of others. I’ve been on a ‘positive’ journey for the last three years, before that, I was lost and pretty much trolled others on Youtube and Twitter in particular, for no reason at all other than to be funny, at sometimes serious situations. Well, I have been working on myself for almost three years for the better, even reached out to some of those Youtubers that I had made disparaging remarks about to apologize. I’ve grown to have the desire to be wise, sit in the lotus position and have ‘Aha’ (discovery) moments as my journey change for the best. My cousin is a flight attendant and placed me on his flyers list where I can travel anywhere in the world for free, I’ll just have to pay around $100 if I want to fly first class. Culture knowledge is wonderful. I currently feel as if I’m laying on the grass on a quiet summer night, staring at the stars in the sky as the wind gently caress my body with nothing to fear at all. The world needs dirt in order to grow, I want to grow.

  36. In 2018 I will find brokers who don’t want to sell only $50,000 domains. It is nothing like real etate (as some brokers say on interviews). I have contacted a few brokerage companies and one of them said the domain must be worth $10,000 and another said $50,000. So considering there are not many domains left that cost so much , I am going to search for real brokers , who sell domains often , instead of waiting to make their money from 5 sales over an year.

    1. Post
      Author

It’s pure economics: the most successful brokers need make their 10-15% commissions selling great domain names, and it’s simply not worth their time to sell domains that are worth a retail value of less than $10,000 to $50,000 (depending on their stature, skills and experience) when there’s no shortage of great domain names to sell.

The same is true for physical real estate agents — the brokers that sell waterfront real estate in California for millions of dollars don’t have the time to sell $150,000 homes inland because there is no shortage of homes for sale along the water.

Your key to success is to find the brokers who are interested in selling the lower valued domain names (not that they’re not valuable to someone…just speaking about the absolute retail value of the domain name). OR BETTER YET — go learn to sell domain names yourself and make your own success. Why rely on others to do the work when you can be in control of your own destiny?

Whatever path you choose, best wishes in 2018!

  37. Perhaps we can learn something from DNAcademy.

We have owned several 100 domains since 1997 and reached out to many Domain Brokers / Auction Houses / Experts for help in divesting some of our best.
Limited success to say the least over 20 years of ownership. Two sales amounting to $45 Grand (INCA.com & GigIT.com)
(INCA.com back in 1997 for $17,000 sale, AND GigIT.com 2013 Leased with option to buy $40,000 which defaulted after paying $30 Grand)
We got it back. Neither of these sales were created by brokers but by users who wanted the name and found us on WhoIs.

Sorry to say most (I.E. Sedo type Brokers) just want money for membership and deliver nothing in return like “Interested Buyers”.
Since the Google algorithms have changed, a “name on subject” does nothing to bring any traffic unless it’s a paid advertisement.
We are now dropping many of these domains after keeping them alive of decades.

Those sound like a couple of great sales!

Most brokers will tell you that out of 100 outbound sales inquires, only one will pan out. Outreach is hard work, which is why so many domain name investors rely on passive inbound inquiries via whois or for-sale landing pages.

I’m not sure what your resolution is, but I wish you luck in your 2018 investing activities, Tom!

  38. Dear Michael,

I became a fan of yours after watching most of your Domainsherpa interviews, which I miss a lot now. Also I have learned a lot from your one and only DN Academy. A Big salute to you sir.

My New Year domain resolution 2018 is to launch my dream project DomainBrandable.com, which caters Brandable, netGTLD & CC domains under one platform.

Great first step, Mike. Once that’s done (and you should do that first), then get them listed (with or without prices) in Afternic and Sedo.

Thanks for posting your resolution and best wishes in 2018!

  39. My goal in 2018 is to be able to learn more about selection of winning domain names, negotiations and hoping to make my first domain sale.

  40. Dear Michael,

You are one of the reason that got me into domain investing. Especially that interview with Doron was really inspiring !

2017 was about learning and discovering domaining.

2018 will be about learning, start building a portfolio and start selling.
No impulse buying or impulse hand regs.
Achieving some fast flips on 4L’s or 5L’s in order to gain experience and why not increase my budget for better name acquisitions in the future.
Last but not least, connecting with people in the industry and networking.

Greetings from Greece and happy holidays everyone!

And some great resolutions for 2018. Hopefully you’ll be attending NamesCon in January so I can meet you in person. If not, I look forward to staying in touch online and hearing how your journey is going. Best wishes in 2018!

  41. Thanks for your great contributions in the past. My resolution for 2018 is to simple educate myself as much as I can in this industry and lessen on my mistakes

  42. Michael,

My plan for 2018 is stop “dabbling” in my domain ownership and actually begin to strategically invest and utilize the resources
that you are teaching to implement a campaign to monetize the 300+ high value domains I have. This is the year! No more talking about it, no more planning, but actually making things happen!

  43. Thanks for this another great chance given, I remember vividly in 2014 or 2013 when I was looking for a place to learn about domaining. I stumbled on Domainsherpa.com and that led me to know much about domaining.
Today, this could be another opportunity for me to join your live membership.
My 2018 Resolution 9 Points development Agenda are as follows:

    1. to drop all pigeon chits in my portfolio
    2. to get more of good drops
    3. I could love to do out-bounding for my domains but it is unfortunate I ‘m from a country people have tagged as bad eggs.
    4. I will intensify selling my domains at various marketplaces.
    5. to sell some domains that are not having inquiries at namepros for cheap price,
    6. will use money to but some good chips,
    7. to try as much to sell domains on Monthly basis via namejet and flippa will not mind listing with money, after all money must be spent to get money.
    8. I will try to develop my blog DNCombo.com and list my names and other people who love to list can as well list them on my blog for free.
    9. I will advertise my blog on DNjournal for exposures.

    Thanks

Great resolution, Ivan. I love to see people focus on and incorporate their strengths in domain name investing!

  45. I just started domaining and purchased 30 domains. In 2018, I would love sell them and update my domain portfolio with more valuable domains. I am sure following an influencer like you would keep on track to achieve my objectives in 2018.

Congrats on starting investing in domain names. Selling is key to understanding what types of domain names people want to buy, so well done choosing your next step. Best wishes in 2018!

  46. I have planned to separate my room so no one will disturb me while working and I would work at whole night rather than day to produce more good results. In 2018 I would focus on affiliate marketing and domain flipping and I have planned specific days to research and work. If I got success I will buy a property for reselling purpose. My main goal in 2018 is to get financial freedom.

  47. Hi Michael,

    Long time follower here.

I think I consider myself kind of an “accidental domainer”. At one point, I owned about 800 domains. I’ve since let most of them go and have a little over 450 now. Believe it or not, these domains were not purchased for the purpose of flipping them. Rather, they represented various ideas and projects I wanted to someday embark on. You probably hear that alot. Yeah, I’m one of “them”. 🙂

Anyway, I’ve sold a domain here or there when the opportunity presented itself. The problem is, everytime I sold a domain, since they represented my personal ideas, it was as if I was selling a piece of me.

Well, that’s dumb and it doesn’t pay the bills. Thousands and thousands of dollars (and years of infrequent nagging from my very patient wife) later, I’ve figured out that this isn’t working out. Still poor (partly because of renewing 450+ domains each year) and haven’t completed a single of these “awesome, life changing” projects yet.

So, it’s time to smarten up and admit to my wife that I’m an idiot, a notion which she will not-so-subtley but whole-heartily agree to.

My goal for 2018 is a composite one. Basically, I plan to go from “accidental domainer” to “intentional domainer”. My hopes is that, especially if I win a membership to your program, I can progress quickly from “intentional domainer” to “rockstar domainer”. Of course, there’s alot that needs to happen to go from accidental to anything other than. So here are my more immediate goals to get me eventually to my big goal of “rockstar”.

    1. Win a membership to DNA Academy. Become a fervant studant, hell-bent on becoming a top-student and actually putting to practice what I learn. If I win, I want to be the biggest case study, success story, and testimonial you have ever had. I want to make sure that this membership does NOT go to waste… that you will benefit by my success and that I, too, will find success as a domainer. If I don’t win a membership, I will proceed with goal #2 below. After I’ve made $2,000+ profit from selling a domain or two, I will then purchase your membership, as I realize that your DNA Academy will serve a critical role in being successful as a domainer. I hope this doesn’t backfire on me… why would you give your free membership to someone who wants to sign up anyway down the road? All I can say is, without your help, I’m not sure how long it’ll take to earn that profit. I am also worried that I’ll burn out before I can make this profit, as I have too many things on my plate right now. Which leads me to goal #2…

    2. Clear off my plate some. I have my fingers in so many different pies that I never actually enjoy success. I spin my wheels, waste my time, and then, at the end of every night, stress out about how I use all my energy to help other people succeed but never feel like I’m a success myself. I’m kinda the anti-Pareto right now. I’m tired of it and things need to change. This leads me to goal #3…

    3. Get up early. Take control and responsibility. Cowboy up. For a while, I was getting up at 5:00 to 5:30 am. That was tough, but man, was it rewarding. (Thanks, Jocko WIllink.) I was finally starting to take control. But sure enough, I got distracted and lost my way. No freakin’ more. Starting January 2, I’m getting up at 5:15 am at the very latest. (My wife will want to sleep in January 1. I’m not gonna risk my life. 😉 ) I will resume what I had started before with my last attempt at starting early… 1/2 to 1 hour or so for my spiritual well-being, followed by furthering myself (studying domaining, working on my technical skills, sharpening my skills as a trader, etc.), and of course, some exercise. By the time the Nine-to-Fivers are beginning their work day, I will have spend a half a day already furthering my own personal self. I will have put ME and my family and my God first before giving the rest of the day to “The Man” and “The System”.

    4. Now that I’m taking control, I want to build out my domain that will represent me as a “intentional” domainer and will allow the public easy and full access to my domain inventory. I will begin promoting myself as a “rockstar” domainer (hey, it’s marketing… and I have to project myself as being already where I want to be. I need to push myself) on social networks, on my blog, etc.

    5. I will figure out which domains have the most potential value and begin building out websites for each of these. After all, I believe that I will net more per domain if they are accompanied with a legitimate, Google-ranking website, along with social media accounts that have accrued real followers. If I can sell entire domain estates, rather than simply selling a domain name, I think I’ll get much more return.

    6. I will let go of my pride. No more will these be my intellectual property “babies”. These will no longer be the “next Facebook”. I will sell domains, built out sites… not dreams. I will allow others to take these domains and spin off dreams of their own. I need to do this. I figured that 400 domains * $10 a year is just crazy. It’s like having a car dealership and refusing to sell the cars when people want to buy them. If I can even sell my domains for $100 each (which really hurts to say), I would make some ridiculous money! Much more than what I’m making with 400 dreams that go unfulfilled.

So, Michael, that’s my plan for 2018. Even if I don’t win, I hope I can tell you next year at this time that I’ve sold 50% of my domains for $250 each or more. But I really do hope I win. In fact, I’m putting my pride aside to ask you, to BEG YOU, to allow me the privilege of being your next student. I can’t afford to join right now… my money is too tied up and I barely make ends meet. I’m sorry to say that (please don’t tell my wife) the renewal fees suck up what little (very little) extra money we have. This isn’t fair to my wife. This isn’t fair to me. So I’m going to make the changes necessary, but I desperately need your help.

Thanks for the opportunity. I sincerely hope you’ll consider my case, but regardless, I’ll continue to follow you as you provide information that can help me succeed. I hope though that I can become your greatest success story. Have a great 2018!

    Sincerely,

    Tom

      Some great ideas there, Tom.

Thanks for being a long-time watcher, and best wishes to you on your journey in 2018!

  48. My goal for 2018 is to be a well know domain name marketplace and brand for Namealize.com. I want to see my name on all the big websites like domainnamewire.com, domaining.com and Behind The Domain on Efty for domain sales. I want to learn as much as I can, watch as many Domain Sherpa shows as I can to learn from the experts. The Domain Sherpa show has been very helpful and I appreciate all of the work you out into the shows.

Besides this contest, I want to thank you Michael for everything that you have done to teach others on DomainSherpa.com. I am going to be a DN Academy student either way and invest in myself to gain even more knowledge. It is well worth the price and I will be glad to support DN Academy. In fact, I just noticed your specials you have now and it’s a great price and investment. So if I did win, I would give the membership to someone that has helped me online or took the time to answer questions I asked them.

    Happy New Year!

    Thank you,

    Michael

Thanks for being in the Sherpa Network, Michael. It’s appreciated.

You have some great goals for 2018. Setting up a game plan for how to achieve them and the results you expect (so you can measure against them) is critical. But I think you’re heading in a great direction.

  50. Hi! I just found your podcast! I was searching information on domain names, as I just bought 2 domain names for my future business(s), and it occurred to me, that buying domains and selling can actually become a career.

In 2018, I will be absorbing all the information I can from all the Thrivers I come in contact with (this includes you)

. At the same time, I will be growing my businesses and purchasing domain names for profit.

Thanks for watching and sharing your thoughts, Tyra.

There are a quite a few full-time domain name investors but most people invest in domain names part-time, like they might invest their 401K in stocks or bonds. So I’d, personally, worry less about how much time you spend and focus more on the results…which can be fantastic. 🙂

Good luck in 2018. Knowledge is the first step, application is where you make the $.

      Happy new year!

  51. My ultimate goal in 2018 is to upgrade my knowledge about domains to a PRO level and try to inculcate all the values, tactics, techniques and a keen sense of devotion and passion to the domain profession that Michael Cyger has.

In concise, I do not want to duplicate Michael or his success (no one can as everyone is unique) but imbibe the way he thinks. I am keen to learn to mimic his genius way of thinking and that is all that would matter to make success follow me unexpectedly in common hours.

      Hi Rishi,

Thanks for watching a taking a moment to share your goals for 2018.

It’s never too late to upgrade your knowledge. I try to do it daily. 🙂

I appreciate you saying that you don’t want to duplicate my success as everyone has different goals, budget, time, resources, etc. This was the impetus for me to create this video: https://www.dnacademy.com/you-need-to-do-you

      Best wishes in 2018,
      Michael
